John Fitzpatrick, UK Safety Manager for GKN Driveline took some time to reflect as he approaches retirement.
I’ve been with GKN since 1993, and I’ve been surprised at the change in PPE during that time. Safety Footwear is the lightest and most comfortable it’s ever been. At GKN, it’s vital that the products are comfortable and fit for purpose. The guys on the shop floor are on their feet and moving around all day. We’ve tried numerous types of cushion matting and various Safety Footwear Manufacturers. For an organisation the size of ours of course, cost is an important consideration.
What did we offer?

John recognised the importance of comfort, and already knew the benefits of composite components. He didn’t quite realise that there were so many choices out there that didn’t cause duplication in his range.
Engaging Rock Fall was a fantastic move. Our range is almost entirely composite now and early signs are that we have found exactly what we’ve been searching for.
Our future
As the Rock Fall range is continually being developed other products are discussed when the time is appropriate. Ongoing wearer feedback is reviewed to ensure the continual performance and value for money is achieved.
